First PPSF (Preserving the Past, Securing the Future) workshop at the Juno Beach Centre
On February 16 and 17, Juno Beach Centre hosted the first PPSF (Preserving the Past, Securing the Future) workshop, organized by the LRE Foundation in collaboration with mascontour – Sustainable Tourism Consulting & Communication and the Fondazione Campus Studi del Mediterraneo.
This workshop brought together professionals from Germany, Poland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy, Canada, and France, with the goal of promoting more responsible memory tourism.
Day 1: Discovery and Exchange of Experiences
Before this session, participants had completed the three online training modules. The first day began with mutual introductions and a review of the modules’ content. The visit to the Juno Beach Centre and its Juno Park allowed participants to discover the Centre’s strategy, action plan, and corporate social and environmental responsibility (CSR) practices.
This immersion served as a starting point for discussions and reflections on initiatives that each participant could implement within their own organization.
Day 2: Practical Implementation and Planning Concrete Actions
The second day focused on presenting three concrete actions that each participant committed to implement by June, aimed at advancing sustainable development within their institutions.
The next steps of the PPSF program include:
-
Online mentoring sessions with experts,
-
An April workshop at the Museum of the Second World War in Gdansk (Poland) on the social dimension of sustainability in museums,
-
A June workshop in Lucca (Italy) focusing on sustainable management and governance challenges.
Participant Testimonials
Ischa Mulder – Oorlogsgravenstichting (Netherlands):
“I leave with several concrete ideas, inspired by the Centre where there is a balance between strategic vision and a very pragmatic approach.”
Rémi Commin – Mémorial du Débarquement et de la Libération en Provence – Mont Faron:
“These exchanges allowed me to identify actions with different timelines: some long-term, but also measures that can be applied quickly to be a driving force within my museum.”
Paolo Eugenio Corti – Fondazione Campus Studi del Mediterraneo:
“Juno Beach Centre is a pilot project that looks to the future.”
We sincerely thank all participants and our partners for their enthusiasm and the richness of the exchanges. These two days highlight the importance of sharing best practices among professionals in tourism and cultural heritage.
