Pillar of Action: Reduce the direct/indirect environmental impact and promote a circular economy.
Starting Point: In 2019, the museum’s total emissions were 1096 tCO2e.
Goal for 2050: Reduce the environmental impact of our exhibitions and communication materials to help reduce emissions by 5% per year and achieve an emissions rate of 223.56 tCO2e at the Juno Beach Centre.
What We’ve Done:
- Temporary exhibitions conception in accordance with eco-friendly guidelines.
- Two canons were restored by the Air Com Eco company, which uses soda blasting techniques that include natural abrasives that do not harm the environment.
- Recycling certain materials from exhibitions to create products sold in our boutique.
- Implementing eco-friendly changes in our current exhibitions (permanent and temporary) and using eco-friendly guidelines going forward.
Our Plan:
- Creating a plan on how to sustainably manage collections.
- Measuring the impact of digital technology in exhibitions. Green IT Collective will carry out an audit to do this.
Framework: Since 2019, the Juno Beach Centre has initiated and implemented a sustainable development plan based on its greenhouse gas (GHG) assessment which aims to move towards a low carbon model while contributing to a more sustainable and united world.
This action falls within the framework of SDG 12.
Some projects benefit from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the “Aid for the Ecological and Digital Transition of Tourism” in compensation for the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the tourism sector.
