Friendship at the Heart of the Guide Program

When you work at the Juno Beach Centre, you become part of a dynamic team of young guides from across Canada. Beyond the daily work, you also share a common house — a true place of life and exchange. Over the course of seven months, deep bonds are formed: colleagues often become close friends, and these friendships last for years and across borders.

Many of our former guides stay in touch long after their season. They visit one another across Canada and continue to share special moments together. For us, it is a great joy to see these friendships born and flourish thanks to the program.

Elisha DAVIDSON et Vivian NEWELL – 2023

“ You never know what to expect moving into a room with other people, but these close quarters brought many nights of laughter and good memories. Having met during the 2024 guide season, we bonded quickly and were thrilled to be invited back for the 2025 season where we have continued our exciting adventures. Through house activities like group dinners and soirées, the guide team becomes your family. Our time in Courseulles-Sur-Mer has been filled with beach picnics, day trips and late-night swims. We look forward to every day at the Juno Beach Centre, knowing we’ll be seeing each other’s smiling faces. While our friendship began in the workplace, our mutual love for art and history has encouraged us to take our friendship abroad. Together, we trekked to Dublin where we drank unreasonable amounts of tea, to Paris where we immersed ourselves in the city and took a historical voyage through the Loire. This time spent together has brought us so close, it often feels like we share a brain. Too often we find ourselves saying the same thing or using the same jokes. It’s comforting knowing we’ve got each other’s back, especially when far from home. It’s not often that you find such a kindred spirit, so when we joined the guide team, we never expected to find a best friend. The guide program has given us the opportunity to make friends from all over Canada. Even though we will return home to our respective provinces and will be separated by distance, we know we are only a phone call away! We are very grateful to the Juno Beach Centre guide program for bringing us together. We look forward to seeing what we achieve together in the future!”

Louis LEBEL et Scott BERTHELETTE – 2012

“I met Scott as a guide at the Juno Beach Centre during the summer of 2012. He was living in Winnipeg, where I had never been, and I was based in Ottawa. Since our guide contract at the Centre, I have gone to visit him in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, and Kingston, and he has visited me in Ottawa and Montreal.

In 2016, we even travelled back together to Courseulles-sur-Mer. We still see each other several times a year. In 2017, I had the honour of participating in his wedding as master of ceremonies, and in a few months, he’ll be at mine!

A lifelong friendship, created in just four months by sharing a room and an unforgettable experience at the Juno Beach Centre.”
