Audrey Veres, Belgian daughter of a Royal Winnipeg Rifles veteran, came to the Juno Beach Centre to walk in her father’s footsteps. Her father, Rifleman Joseph Frederick Veres, from d’Amour, Saskatchewan, was a sniper in the Second World War and met her mother of in Brussels during the war and she became his war bride. Mrs. Veres, proud of her Canadian-Belgian origins, was touched to finally visit Normandy and retrace her participation. She has proudly kept many of her father’s personal war memorabilia and archives.
