Birth place and date: Gilbert was born on 13 January 1924.

Religion: Gilbert was a member of the United Church.

Occupation: Before the war, Gilbert served as a farmer.

Marital Status: Gilbert was never married or had children.

Next of kin: Gilbert’s next of kin was his mother, Mary Ellen Harkness.

Date and location of enlistment: Gilbert enlisted on 5 July 1943.

Additional Information:

  •  Gilbert was helping his mother, Mary Ellen take care of the family house before the war.
  •  His father was unwell and Gilbert was required to help out.

Burial location: Gilbert is buried at the Beny-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery in France. He was 20 years old when he died.
