Ties that bind – The Vanden Elzen Family at the JBC

| November 9, 2015

Today, we were pleased to welcome John and Joe Vanden Elzen to the Juno Beach Centre. Their father, John Vanden Elzen joined the Dutch resistance during the war and immigrated to Canada after the conflict. John and Joe came to the museum as part of a 10 day visit to Europe including the Juno Beach Centre, Vimy Ridge and sites in the Netherlands. John and his granddaughter Jennifer Vanden Elzen, guide at the Juno Beach Centre in 2014, are featured in our temporary exhibit “Maple Leaves and Tulips” as familial examples of “the ties that bind” the Canadians and the Dutch in the war and over the generations.

Thank you for visiting and for the interest your family has in the Juno Beach Centre and what it represents for Canada’s role in the Second World War.

Enjoy the rest of your trip and “veilige reis!”
