Remembering Garth Webb

70 years ago today Nazi Germany accepted defeat, officially bringing an end to the War in Europe.
It was three years ago today that Garth Webb, D-Day veteran and founder and president of the Juno Beach Centre, passed away. A humble but courageous man who described himself on D-Day as being “… a junior officer with executive responsibilities; and I didn’t have much time to sit around and be concerned about the dangers.”
As the Juno Beach Centre marks the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe, we also remember Garth Webb, who by his courage, his passion and visionary spirit ensured that the legacy of the contributions made by Canada and Canadians in the Second World War will be passed on to future generations through the Centre.
Lest we forget.
