The trinôme académie* of Calvados organized a Youth Walk on May 10, 2019.
150 students (ages 9 to 11) from the Collèges in Courseulles-sur-Mer (Quintefeuille), Douvres-la-Délivrande (Clément-Marot) and Ouistreham (Monnet), as well as primary students from Graye-sur-Mer, Colleville and Douvres-la-Délivrande participated.
The objective of this walk was to enable an exchange among the students, to organize a shared excursion, to discover an exceptional historical environment and to ensure a commemorative endeavour tied to the themes of citizenship, security, defense and prevention.
Around mid-day, after the walk and the creation of outdoor artwork at the Croix de la Lorraine, the youth assembled in front of the Juno Beach Centre to participate in workshops offered by the following partners: la gendarmerie du Calvados, les sapeurs pompiers, le CIRFA (Army, Navy and Air forces), l’ONAC, la SNSM, la MGEN, la MAIF, la MAIF Prévention and the Juno Beach Centre.
The Juno Beach Centre was pleased to be a partner in this event dedicated to the transmission of memory, which generated discussions around remembrance and reflection.
*The trinômes académiques functions under the responsibility of : Recteur assisté de l’autorité militaire territoriale and présidents des associations régionales de l’IHEDN
