A Memorable Gift

| July 21, 2015

We were thrilled to welcome Judy and Steve McLaughlin to the Juno Beach Centre today. Judy is the daughter of D-Day veteran Arthur Joseph Byway who served on HMCS Algonquin (tribal class destroyer). Her father kept an illustrated diary throughout the war, which the family self-published and presented to the Centre! A great resource to further account for the Royal Canadian Navy’s role on D-Day and during the Battle of Normandy. A digital copy of his journal will soon be available on the JBC website.

While Arthur is no longer with us, he left us with a touching record of his wartime experiences through this diary.

A big thank you to the McLaughlin and Byway families for this generous gift.
