It was a great first day for the participants in the 12th annual Juno Beach Centre Summer Institute and Battlefield Tour. Our flight departed Toronto in the evening and 25 teachers from all across Canada arrived in Paris early in the morning to start this exciting tour.
The first stop after a quick lunch was the Beaumont-Hamel Memorial, where we were given a warm welcome by Greg, a Newfoundland-born student guide. After touring the site with the excellent Canadian student guides, the teachers had time to explore the site before taking off for the Thiepval Memorial to the missing.
We finished the day with a dinner in the town of Arras at Le Bistrot du Boucher, where everyone had a chance to get to know each other over a welcome drink.
Check back with us tomorrow as we visit Vimy Ridge and Dieppe!
