2015 Calendar of Events

The Juno Beach Centre will update this program regularly throughout 2015. It also reserves the right to change and/or cancel all or part of this program. Please note that concerts on the Garth Webb Esplanade are cancelled in the event of poor weather.
Annual events 2015
Saturday, February 14 — 3 to 5 pm
3rd Annual Juno Beach Centre “Cuisinades” For Valentine’s Day, Norman Chefs Michel BRUNEAU and Pierre LEVEBVRE* will conduct a cooking demonstration workshop at the Juno Beach Centre for couples on the theme of: Cooking Favorites for couples
Participating couples will be separated in two groups who will work alternatively with the 2 chefs to prepare Canadian and Norman-inspired appetizers (amuses bouches) to share in a moment of conviviality, paring flavours from Normandy and from across the Atlantic. Length of the workshop: 2 hours maximum. After the workshop, the participants will taste their creations during an informal cocktail to finish off the afternoon. Please arrive 15 minutes before the workshop. Cost is 10€ per person to pay upon registration at the Juno Beach Centre. Number of inscriptions limited to 14 couples. Deadline for registrations: Thursday February 12, 2015 The workshop will be conducted in French only. *Restaurant L’Accolade, 18 porte aux Berger à Caen

« Radio Marque Page » Text reading and music by D’Rôle de Compagnie. Literary readings and songs heard on French radio during the Second World War. 80 minutes of emotion, laughter and nostalgia (in French only). 10€. Reservations and ticket sales at the Juno Beach Centre. Limited seating. Multipurpose room.

FRIDAY MAY 8 – PEACE HIKES FOR THE 70TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RETURN OF PEACE IN EUROPE
Walk Hike: In memory of the Canadian soldiers – 30 km. Starting at the Juno Beach Centre. In memory of the Canadian soldiers who landed between Graye-sur-Mer and Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer. Before the start, a Canadian guide will make a historical briefing about the events of 1944.
Departure: 8h30 in front of the Juno Beach Centre in Courseulles.
Arrival: remembrance gardens in the valley of the Caen Memorial.
Roller Hike: Roll and Peace (38 km), Les « Rollombes blanches » (52 km) and « Callumés » de la Paix (98 km). The 3 hikes which start in Caen will reach the Juno Beach Centre for a pic nic around 12h30. Historical briefing by a Canadian guide about the events in 1944.

FRIDAY MAY 8 — 14H30
Concert by Ecole secondaire Dorval-Jean-XXIII – Montréal, Québec Concert offered by Dorval-JeanXXII high school’s concert band with rhythm section (Montreal, Quebec) comprised of 47 student-musicians. Their repertoire is both folk and contemporary and their goal is to showcase the close musical and cultural ties shared with France. The concert band is touring France, playing in Paris, Tours, and St-Malo, and stopping at the Juno Beach Centre to commemorate Victory in Europe day.

Launch of the new mobile application for Family Visits to the Exhibit “Grandma, What Was it Like During the War?”
The application is free to download on smartphones and tablets with interactive historical content adapted to our temporary exhibition “Grandma, what was it like during the war?”. The application will allow you to better understand the lives of children during the Second World War, while spending time with family or friends. Then share your experiences on our social media!

SATURDAY OCTOBER 31 – 18H to 19H
The Night of Halloween Pirates
All types of pirates are welcome! The night will begin with a group photo and continue with a treasure hunt. Stay for a surprise light show finale. As always, children young and old (and parents!) are encouraged to come dressed up.
Free. On the Esplanade and on the Juno Park. Cancelled in case of bad weather. Treasure hunt under the responsibility of parents.

Holiday Scrapbooking
Visit the Juno Beach Centre on Tuesday December 22 with your family to make a Canadian-style Christmas card and come back on Tuesday December 29th to make a ‘Happy New Year’ card. Free. Children are the responsibility of their parents. Event will take place in the Museum’s multipurpose room.
