It was a great first day for the participants in the 2014 Juno Beach Centre Professional Development Tour. Our flight departed Toronto in the evening and we arrived in Paris to meet up with our tour company, Trafalgar.
The first stop after a quick lunch was the Beaumont Hamel Memorial. After a tour with former JBC guide, Sylvie, the educators had time to wander around the site before taking off for the Thiepval Memorial to the missing.
Lorelei Jensen from Woodstock High School in Greenfield New Brunswick has this to say about her experiences at Thiepval: “Today I was particularly touched by the monument for the missing at the Somme. The memorials to those lost provides a sense of place for families who know not when nor where their loved ones spent their last moments.”
We finished the day with a welcome reception hosted by Trafalgar.
Check back with us tomorrow as we visit Vimy Ridge and Dieppe!
