As part of their trip to the Normandy D-Day Beaches with Ellison Travel and Tours, staff and students of Garth Webb Secondary School in Oakville, Ontario, Canada spent the morning honouring the founder of the Juno Beach Centre, their school’s namesake, with a very special visit to the Juno Beach Centre.
The group held a brief brick inauguration ceremony before laying a wreath on the Garth Webb esplanade. “You Bought Me Time”, Garth’s favourite poem, was read in tribute. The students did a guided tour of the bunkers of Juno Park, explored the permanent exhibition, and watched the film “They Walked with You.” They also took the time to have a discover our new temporary exhibition, “From Vimy to Juno”.
The group had visited Vimy the day before, and in December 2016 their school hosted the Canadian travelling exhibit – they really have experienced Vimy and Juno, two emblematic battle sites remembered by Canadians.
Thank you for your ongoing interest and support. “We will remember them!”
