I was very impressed with my visit as the tour guide (Allison) was very knowledgeable and was able to explain everything in full detail. I was intrigued by all the fortifications still on the beaches and the artefacts that have been found. The temporary exhibit impressed me with the realistic settings and really showed different parts of a soldier, naval man or airman’s life. It included some equipment showing how it would be used and obstacles and how it would stop them. This answered questions I didn’t know I had. The guide (Allison) was also able to explain the area well and explain how the terrain looked. She included buildings that would have been there and what they were used for.

Overall the Juno Beach Centre is very well put together. The items on display as well as the short movies playing and clips were very interesting. Having a guide tell us facts on the beach tour was well done and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The landing craft replica and introduction video, at the beginning of the visit of the museum, kick-started the mood of the Canadian contributions at Juno Beach and the war.

My overall experience at the Juno Beach Centre was really amazing. Our tour guide (Allison) was very informed, friendly and easy to address, which made the outside section of the tour really interesting. The inside of the museum was very impressive and clean! The temporary exhibit was also appealing and informative.

I felt the guide (Allison) did a great job of the beach tour. She worked hard to involve the students and added personal touches. While I do appreciate the Centre, I would expect to see more interpretation of the events of D-Day itself as opposed to so much information about Canada. New temporary exhibit: more of this room! I did not see passports until I was leaving exhibit, so did not get a chance to appreciate. History at your Finger Tips educational presentation: Due to time constraints may I suggest numbered roles (ie: N°1 = look after describing objects in box. N°2 = Explain …. If you have 10 roles and only 5 kids the number of roles / student would increase). Great concept – more objects and gloves would be great (not easy).

Well laid out, very informative and the passport system in the temporary exhibit involves all visitors and makes their experience more relatable. Overall a rich and varied experience. We brought 60 tired 11-12 year olds who I thought would struggle to keep focused. But the talk about army kit (History on Wheels educational presentation) was delivered with such enthusiasm and empathy to the age of the group that the boys’ attention was held and the questions flowed. The exhibit was simple and relevant. Overall I can’t praise highly enough!

A very well-thought and well presented museum with good use of different media. An excellent presentation (History on Wheels educational presentation) by the guide (Alex). The introduction film was just the right length. Good idea about passports in the temporary exhibit but a little more guidance with the sequence of the storyline would have been needed. I really enjoyed the visit, and was impressed by all the resources/diagrams. It was interesting to hear the personal memoirs of Canadian soldiers, as well as even the facts and history of the events. Good use of maps, pictures and different ways to explain history. This captivated the attention easily. I enjoyed the passports in the temporary exhibit, especially learning more about Canadians before and after the War (more personal). Very interesting and informative exhibit. Working in groups (History at your Finger Tips workshop) was very cool. More explanations would have been needed for the younger people in the group ... The workshop was too much like school. It should be more informative with more explanations from the museum’s guides. On the other hand, the visit of the bunker was very interesting. Inside the museum the information could be shorter. More fun during the group workshop would be an improvement.

For our group it was very interesting. We got a little idea of how difficult and dangerous it was to land in Normandy. The guided tour was very informative. It is very important to continue telling and showing the history of WWII and D-Day. For us Germans it is impressive and important to live history in such museums as Juno Beach. I personally think there should also be information in German and in as many languages as possible so everybody has the possibility to be part of this history and to keep it alive for future generations.
Very impressive – especially the guide’s (Allison) explanations outside. Helps to imagine together with videos and pictures the situation on Juno beach in 1944. Thanks a lot! The “History at your Finger Tips” educational activity for our kids was probably too specialized, mostly due to their insufficient knowledge of English.
I found the Juno Beach Centre to be very interesting and informative, especially through the individual soldier’s perspectives. The passport system in the temporary exhibit, although a bit confusing at times, a very creative way to instil a personal connection between the soldiers and the audience and was very intriguing. The only concern I can think of relates to the exhibit in the very last room of the museum about contemporary Canada, which I found to be a slightly (and often times badly) disguised form of propaganda for some industries/organizations. It could be improved to provide an equal vision of representation of our Nation. Thank you for a valuable experience.

The museum was incredible, and the passports in the temporary exhibit gave a really in-depth view of what was happening at the time. The information set a scene and an atmosphere. The objects (like the medical kits) show you how much things changed. It was fascinating to find out about the Canadian regiments and the country’s reasons for joining the war. The movie at the beginning (set out as a landing craft) was amazing as you get to see exactly what all those soldiers would have. Overall, we thought that the exhibits and the information were excellent!

Even from the outside the Centre was impressive. The statue outside is very symbolic and modern but without forgetting it is a historical museum. One of the main reasons I think the museum is so worth visiting is the sheer amount of information, on the walls, on the ceiling, through headphones or in videos. The information on the panels is very readable and I don’t think anyone could find the Centre over informative or confusing, nor could anyone find it dull.

On our way to Juno Beach, I was thinking that there wouldn’t be much to see there or much to do. Upon arrival, I was impressed by the very interesting and interactive museum and the many interesting monuments and artefacts around the Centre. Before coming, I had very little knowledge of the specifics of Canada’s role in the Second World War, but now I feel as tough I have a greater understanding and appreciation for the events that took place during this war. Thanks for the valuable experience!

Merci beaucoup.
I think that the first room with the big screens could be explained better, but other than that it was very good. I also think the room with the headphones and screens was a bit confusing. I liked the idea of the passports in the temporary exhibit and all the other stuff. Overall it was very good.

I think that the passport idea in the temporary exhibit was great ! It really helped me learn more about individual people – like their background in the war. The interactive computer stuff encouraged me to learn. I have learnt many interesting things, but the main was about the passion leadership of lost soldiers. The 300° cinema was interesting, but afterwards there was not much sound to guide me through, so I sometimes got lost with what was happening. I really enjoyed the museum. THANK YOU!

I think it was a very thorough experience as the Centre seemed to fill in every question that you would have wanted to ask. I think the passport idea in the temporary exhibit was a very good exercise as you had a feeling that you were really following the life of a real war veteran. I liked the 300° cinema also because it told what the Canadian soldiers would have been thinking and it gave you a sense that you were really there.

Clearly explained, very ‘hands on’, an effective way to teach young children (10-11 year olds). The "Passport" idea in the temporary exhibit is fun, informative and accessible. In the past, pupils took part in interactive role play with a "D-Day Soldier" – it is a shame this is not automatically included in admission price.

The Centre gave us as individuals the opportunity to empathise with the soldiers and get a feel for life in wartime. We enjoyed the interactive activities, which gave us the opportunity to take learning at our own pace, which meant that the experience was more personal.

This was fantastic—really brings the issue of war to heart. It will be hard to forget what sacrifices the men of our country made for our freedom. At first I thought the Centre was plain and a bit boring. The main greeting room for groups doesn’t have much to see. I quickly changed my mind as I toured through the rooms. There was a bit of everything. I was particularly interested in the more personal side of the soldier’s stories; The first aid kit, personal effects, daily ration kit, love letters, etc. I especially enjoyed Jim Bardsley’s sketches at the end. The variety of ways of communicating their stories to us; films, radio, objects, correspondence, etc, was most impressive.

I was impressed with the variety of exhibits, information, and methods of showing/communicating the info and pieces in the Centre. The diversity of information and highlighting not only D-Day, but other Canada’s participation throughout the war in different occupations was excellent. To include portrayals of Canadian life and the country as a whole, both with respect to the war and before/after it, helps people to better understand us as a nation. I feel that both Canadians and non-Canadians alike will learn things here at the Centre, and provide a better understanding, awareness, and appreciation of Canada and its impact.

Hi from Mobile Central High School, Newfoundland. Our students loved their visit and learned so much about Canada's part in the war, especially the events of June 6th, 1944. To realize and appreciate what Canadian soldiers did for us on that fateful day certainly made our students and teachers very proud to be Canadian. They haven't stopped speaking about it since we came home. It was a great day. Thanks so much!

The outside area is unimpressive, the bunker has little to make it interesting, and the beach could use something to make it look more 1944ish. The museum however is terrific.

The Juno Beach Centre is definitely a great facility. The information about the Canadian involvement in the war was both educational and presented in interesting ways. However, I would say that the use of Peter & Madeleine, the two 'mascots' for kids are a bit strange.

Very nice tribute to our vets and the fallen Canadians. Our tour guide (Jennifer) was very knowledgeable and I liked that she was from Canada. Thank you for building this Centre to honour our troops. The Centre demonstrates a devotion to the efforts of Canadian men and women who fought to liberate the world, along with millions of other Allied troops. Displays fantastic, very accessible and easy to read, very interesting. The opening film was very touching. It had a great impact, gave a sense of soldiers perspective. It sent shivers down my spine. Fantastic guide (Emily), facts were very clear and made sense. She was very passionate about working at the Centre. Bunker was cool to go inside to actually see how it could have been for the soldiers. It was great to come here after studying the war in class back at home. It made something that seemed so far away real for those of us who didn’t think the war affected us.
Fantastic that we have this memorial. Canada did not experience the horror of the battles on our soil (thank God!). This means that we have no repository for our collective experience – that is thousands of miles from home. We need places to remember, to reflect, and to understand in our very core that war is the failure of diplomacy, but that some things are worth fighting for.

To visit any important historical site is always incredible. Our visit to the Juno Beach Centre was especially amazing because of Canada’s contributions in the Second World War at Juno Beach. There are hardly any words that can possibly describe the impact of this experience. To be immersed into the events of the war and the Canadian effort is completely overwhelming. Although I’m sure it is impossible to ever fully comprehend what our Canadian soldiers went through. I feel like I have a much better appreciation for it after visiting this Centre. I have truly never been more thankful for what everyone gave up so that we could have our freedom. The number of people who made this sacrifice is overwhelming as shown at this Centre and if I could, I would thank each individual. They gave up more than anyone should ever be asked to and for that I hope they will always be remembered. This Centre does an excellent job at doing this and for that I will never forget. This makes me so proud to be Canadian.

Merci.

The Juno Beach Centre was great! It helped to further our knowledge about WWII. The set up is very helpful where you have to use your hands and get involved to read more (as if there are activities to take part in). This keeps you busy and more interested. There was also an excellent tour and explanations of the beach and monuments outside.

This place is amazing. It was very eye-opening to be able to see some of the artefacts left over from World War II. My favourite thing was the German bunker on the beach in front of the museum, I loved being able to go in parts of it and look around during the guided beach tour.

Great. Some re-creations of the beach defences would be good.

My students were deeply engaged both inside and outside the Centre. Several students stayed on the beach and around the bunker long after our outdoor tour and those inside were able to satisfy their interest regardless of the depth they were seeking. Those with a good amount of prior knowledge were satisfied with the depth of information. Others really felt empathy because of the personal studies.

The Centre is excellent. The museum and its films are all in all very informative. Our guide (Emily) today was particularly good and very enthusiastic. Thank you very much! We enjoyed listening to the veterans speaking about their experience on the small screens in the museum!

It’s great to see some Canadian representation of the D-Day beaches. The Canadian pre-WWII history is a nice touch (especially about Canada becoming more autonomous). I’m glad to have come.

The Juno Beach Center informed me more about the specific events that took place in WWII. A lot of information was given about what it was like, not only to be in the war but also how the people back in Canada had a hard time living. The Juno Beach Centre also gave visual aids which made the war seem more real. I learned more about the war than I would have at school.

Info boards well done, wide range of information (students didn’t read as much as I would have liked). Wonderful displays of photos, artefacts and info. Great sequencing of events. Easy to follow. Lots of choice for listening, interactive activities, more visual and auditory. Very comprehensive. Lots to look at leaves you thinking. Students said this visit was better than the classes they had at school.
