How
to travel to the Juno Beach Centre
from
Paris
To visit the Juno Beach Centre and the D-Day
landing sites in Normandy, you have several
options.
Renting a Car
Renting a car and touring the
D-Day beaches on your own is an excellent way
to visit the area, as some of the historic sites
can be difficult to reach by public
transportation. Information regarding car rentals
is available
by contacting
the tourist
office
in
Caen or in Bayeux. Renting a car in Paris is
also an excellent option.

Directions
by car from Paris
The Juno Beach Centre in
Courseulles-sur-Mer is 270 kms from Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle
airport in Paris. The drive is approximately
2hours and 45 minutes in length and includes
250 kms on the high speed A13 highway. Drivers
are encouraged to have
change prepared for the numerous toll booths.

Public Transportation
To get to the Juno Beach Centre from Paris,
you may take the train (TER) to Caen
from the GARE ST LAZARE in Paris. This journey
takes approximately two hours. There are about
15 trains
to Caen
daily. Fewer trains run on Sunday. You can find
all
the
train
schedules at www.voyages-sncf.com.
Once
you arrive in Caen, you will need to get to Courseulles-sur-Mer,
the small
coastal
town where the Juno Beach
Centre is located. The Centre is
approximately 25km from Caen. You can
take
a
taxi or use the
regional
coach service
called
the
BUS
VERTS.
A bus leaves more or less every hour from
the BUS VERTS station, which is located next
to the SNCF train station. Bus schedules are
available on
the Internet
at www.busverts14.fr,
the
Caen tourist office, train station and bus station.
Both the number 3 and 4 bus lines stop in
Courseulles-sur-Mer. The journey can take as
long as one hour depending on traffic. Though
every stop in Courseulles is walking
distance to the Centre, the closest
stop
is Le
Chant des Oiseaux, which is a
10 to 15 minute walk. The Centre
is located on the west side of the
port,
right
on the
beach.
How
to travel to the Juno Beach Centre
from London,
England
By
Eurostar via Euro Tunnel:
- from
Waterloo Station to Calais gare TGV or to
Gare du Nord
at Paris. The car journey from Calais lasts
approximately 3 1/2 hours to Courseulles-sur-Mer
or from Gare du Nord 3 hours, depending on
traffic.
You can also take the train from Paris to Caen
(see detailed information above).
By ferry:

from
Portsmouth to Cherbourg (about 5 hours crossing)
- from Portsmouth to Caen-Ouistreham (about
7 hours crossing)
- from Portsmouth to Le Havre (about 6 hours
crossing )
- from Dover to Calais which
is the shortest
crossing, however you will need to
drive, take the bus or take the train from
Calais to Courseulles-sur-Mer
Note: to get to Porstmouth from
London, you have several options: train, bus (National
Express) or car rental. Trains from
Heathrow and Central London are
quite accessible.

Guided Visits of the
D-Day Beaches
Visiting the D-Day landing beaches
and the Normandy region with a professional guide
is an excellent
option, as the lower Normandy region is quite
large and not well serviced by the regional bus
system.
There
are numerous Normandy-area companies that operate
tours of the D-Day beaches and Battle
of Normandy sites. Most companies are based in
Bayeux or Caen and some have developed special
tours for Canadians (see below). While there
are many tour companies in Canada, France, England
and other countries offering tours of the Normandy
battlefields and D-Day sites, only a few offer
battlefield tours of Juno Beach and the Canadian
sector with stops at the Juno Beach Centre. Below,
is a list of tour companies we recommend to visitors
looking for tours of Normandy and the Canadian
sector:
Battlebus
WWII Battlefield Tours - This company is
based out of Bayeux and specialise in tours
of the D-Day beaches; although other areas
of the Normandy battlefields are are also covered.
Owned by an Englishman, who is a well known
WW2 re-enactor, tours are conducted in an eight
seater minibus. Pick-ups in Bayeux. Full details
of availability and prices on the company's
excellent website. Reservation advised.
Normandy
Sightseeing Tours - This Normandy-based
company now offers a tour of the Canadian sites
in Normandy. Daily tours start from Bayeux
near the tourist office and, upon request,
other pick up locations are available. Reservation
advised.
Normandy
Travel - This travel company, based out
of Bayeux, Normandy, offers many packages and
tours throughout Normandy including a 3 day/2
night "Following the steps of the Canadian
troops" D-Day tour. They
work in collaboration with Normandy Sightseeing
Tours
(see above).
Kingshead
Adventures - This British-based company
offers battlefield tours to First and Second
World War battlefield sites in France for individuals,
families or small groups. They also offer personalised
tours which can be arranged to meet individual
needs and travel requirements.
Battle
Honours Ltd. - Battle Honours Ltd brings
history alive through bespoke presentations
and high quality battlefield tours of the Great
War and World War 2. This British-based company
offers tailor-made tours for individuals, small
groups and clubs, as well as coach battlefield
tours which allow you to join a group of like-minded
people wishing to visit the battlefields in
North West Europe. All tours are led by expert
guides and use quality transportation and accommodations.
