From 1939 to 1945, the people of Canada made enormous sacrifices to keep our world free for generations to come.

  • Thousands of men and women gave their lives in the fight against tyranny.
  • Many who returned from battle carry physical and emotional scars to this day.
  • Those who remained on the home front unselfishly took up the vital task of providing our fighting forces with essential equipment and supplies.
  • Loved ones endured months and years of separation and the ever-present fear that they would never see each other again.
  • When hostilities ceased, Canadians opened their doors and their hearts to people from war-ravaged countries so that they could make a new start.

At long last, the contribution of Canadians in the Second World War, and particularly those who faced enemy gunfire on the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944 to establish an Allied presence in Occupied France, is being recognized through the establishment of the Juno Beach Centre at Courseulles-sur-Mer.

Canadians who enjoy a better way of life today because of the sacrifices of half a century ago can show their appreciation by contributing to the establishment of this living, dynamic learning centre.

A variety of donation programs are available with appropriate recognition for each. One of the fastest and easiest is simply to fill in a "Donations Form" on-line for either a simple donation or to purchase a brick for the centre.

"It makes us feel so humble that Canadians came from so far and yet were ready to give their lives for us. Our freedom and present day life is something we are indebted to them forever." - a member of the Dutch Association for Air War Historians, June 8, 1995
