Today we had a tour from Ashleigh which I found really informative and greatly helpful. We also had a question and answer session with the Program Manager (Marie-Josée) which was amazing because every question she had an answer to. It was inspiring and impressive. The memories I will take away with me are the beautiful views and how I can’t ever imagine what it would have been like. Another memory is the sculpture, the facts I learned, the atmosphere of the whole experience of being here. My overall impression of the museum and tours is flawless. I love how the building incorporates the modern day / contemporary element with the amazing history and education one can learn here. Also, with the system of student guides – Ashleigh makes people really listen because she sounded so passionate about it all. Thank you very much for having us. It has been amazing.

It was very interesting finding out about the landings, stuff that none of us knew. I had no idea that the Canadians played such a big part in D-Day. It’s fun going to the beaches and going in the bunkers. You can almost believe that you’re a soldier on D-Day.

Always a real eye opener for teachers to visit the various centres, museums, sites, etc. associated with D-Day. The Juno Beach Centre is very well laid out with lots of interesting exhibits and displays. The fact that the children did not end up at the end 15 minutes after the start (and had to be called away after an hour) shows the level of interest it had for them. The beach tour was very interesting and enjoyed by the whole group of 12 year olds.

The soldier was fantastic. The soldier made it sound so real. The soldier’s story was quite scary and I felt so lucky it wasn’t me who had to go through it. I thought the museum was really nice. It gave me a perspective of what our soldiers had to go through. Without this tour, I would not have known how many soldiers died or got injured in this war. We really appreciate that we were met by university students from Canada. The display was excellent in helping our students understand the sacrifices made by their ancestors. It was a great experience for all and we are glad to see Canadian students working in France.

My overall impression of my visit to Normandy was quite good. I enjoyed being able to see a monument dedicated to the Canadian soldiers. I think looking in the German bunker really gives everyone a realistic sense of what it was like to be in the war. The Juno Beach Centre was also very informative. I enjoyed how there were so many “hands-on” things to do, as opposed to the other museums where it is strictly “hands-off”. Mostly though, I enjoyed the fact that this Centre represents Canada, even in France, it brought a lot of us closer to home.

I like the fact that this facility was made possible through private Canadian donations. I liked the emphasis on the personal sacrifices and expectation of Canadian soldiers without glorifying the war experience. I also appreciated the emphasis on the logistical scale required to bring soldiers to war. I particularly liked the Canadian emphasis; a memorial dedicated to the memory, accomplishments, and sacrifices made by Canadians. The multi-media displays and presentations made this facility interesting for people of all ages. Excellent example of Canadian culture and attitudes. Very engaging and worthwhile.

The beach visit and Canadian soldiers experience were both excellent. It was perfect for our year 7 group (11-12 year olds) from the UK. The Centre was very good, with some great interaction displays. Although the wall displays were rather text-heavy. In general, an excellent visit, and we will return next year.

The museum was very informative and the displays were interesting. It was easy enough to understand, yet gave you a lot of info. We think any Canadian interested in WWII should come here to see the beautiful beaches and learn what the troops did for the country and for the world.

As a Canadian high school student, this is a simply breath taking experience. I will leave here with a new appreciation for the sacrifices of our soldiers on D-Day. I’m very happy that there is a facility which can portray them and what they have done. This place makes me truly proud to be Canadian.

It is an excellent experience for the students. Many of them don’t know very much about WWII, and don’t realize the sacrifices that were made by many Canadians that were approximately the same age as themselves. We have been to Paris, seen many cathedrals, the Loire valley castles, Saint-Malo, Mont Saint-Michel, etc. The Juno Beach Centre is very nice. The list of 45,000 soldiers killed in WWII would have had more impact in its own darker area.

Walking into the room where "I will remember them", a popular poem is hanging, made me really stop. Seeing the correspondence from the soldiers and listening to a few letters in a booth while watching the list of dead scrolling on the ceiling really hit me. The Centre is a great call back to reality. The ocean beach, silent and tranquil, really pulled me in and transported me back to what happened that fateful day years ago.

Being able to come experience and see everything makes you look at the war and soldiers in a new way. When you see all they went through to give us our freedom, it is amazing that they put their lives on the line in order for us to live peaceful lives. I began planning a Canadian Battlefield Tour over a year ago. We have been and will see the Normandy Battlefields, the WWI sites and the Scheldt battlefield (because apparently no one goes there). We are also visiting Dieppe. This museum is the most impressive that I have seen yet on the Norman coast! Well done. This trip has meant a great deal to me personally and hopefully much more to my students. I suppose I planned this trip so that I could do something to "keep faith" with Canada's fallen. Bringing the students here is my act of remembrance. I hope it's enough.

It was wonderful to return to Juno Beach for a second time and to visit the Juno Beach Centre for the first time. To be here is to remember and respect the service and accomplishments of the "greatest generation". Our students have the opportunity to personalise their reflections of war in a much more meaningful manner. Coming here, I was expecting another museum tour. But seeing the expressions on the statue's faces and looking at the beach, picturing yourself and your emotions as you are standing in the landing craft, I realised how scared they must have been. The memorial / museum humbled me a great deal and only increased my resentment for war. To put yourself in someone else's shoes and attempt to simulate their feelings as they were under fire and approached the beach, is terrifying. I am impressed with the museum, the work that went into it, and the way it tries to put you back in time. Thank you so much for the experience - it can be life changing.

I have taught history for 35 years and have never been to the places I have been talking about. It is deeply moving to be here. It is hard to believe that it took until 2003 to build this memorial - anything Canada spends on this is money well spent. For my students, nothing I can say can convey what it would feel like to storm a beach under fire. It is not part of our life experience - but standing on the beach helps convey more than I am capable of delivering.

Ever since learning about World War II in my senior history class, I have been fascinated by what happened on the Normandy shores. The Juno Beach Centre provided me with a surreal, tangible link to the experiences of Canadian and Allied soldiers. It is one thing to learn and study WWII through textbooks and assignments. However, documentation and secondary sources can only do so much. Within a classroom and with the right teacher, history comes alive. It is a magical phenomenon when one is able to actually set foot where D-Day occurred. It is a great opportunity to be able to connect your classroom knowledge with the real artefacts and landings beaches. I will forever be able to remember facing the English Channel where thousands of men crossed and risked their lives for the life we live today. It meant a lot to me. I have gained an understanding of what life was really like during WWII and the times before and after. Reading about these events in a text book does not do them justice. To see the broad expanse of open beach, that great plain of flat sand and seaweed opening onto windblown dunes and sparse grasses rippling in the sea breeze, really gave me a feeling of awe for those men who had to shed their blood in this barren land with only ideology behind them - the courage it must have taken to willingly [run] into the crossfire in the name of a land they loved. I will walk away from here with far, far more respect for those who strode proudly into the blood and brine, battle and horror all around them. I will take from here a memory of pride to count myself as a countryman of one of those titans who strode the beaches with heads held high as the world burned around them.

I have enjoyed my visit to Normandy very much. It is such a beautiful and unique place to visit. I enjoyed Normandy and I find it a very different place than Canada. Also, by coming here, I learned a little more about Canada. By coming to the Juno Beach Centre, I learned more about Canada's role in World War II. Even though, before I came here, I knew most of the facts about WWII, I still couldn't imagine how so many Canadians decided to put their lives on the line for something that, at the time, didn't really affect them. Now, after coming to the Juno Beach Centre, I'm starting to find out what made them feel that way and also how hard it must have been to accept the consequences. Now, I fully appreciate what the veterans did and I feel very proud of my country. I'd like to thank you for a very amazing time!
The Juno Beach Centre was absolutely stunning and very moving! Your interactive displays and bright colours are perfect for students and adults of all ages. This place should be a major stop for all schools. Thank you! Merci !

I'm sure I speak for the whole group when I say Juno Beach is an amazing site. As a 17 years old Canadian, I have never been exposed first hand to the loses one experiences during war. To me, visiting Juno Beach has finally somewhat fulfilled my hunger for war history. It was very emotional to try to imagine myself back in time as a young Canadian soldier and to trying to figure what the mindset of the men at the time was. So far, I have seen many historical monuments in places I have read about in textbooks. My experiences between France and Belgium have been sentimental in many ways but mostly due to the fact that I want to pay my respects to those who fought.

The museum has shown me key details about the war and D-Day that I will keep with me for the rest of my life. My experience with educational tours has shown me what it was like and I’ve seen the beaches of D-Day and those memories will never be lost.

Great, moving experience. The students got a lot out of the visit. The video was amazing, too bad it was not available for sale: it would be a great tool for the classroom.
To learn from the text book or to see things first hand are completely different. Often I have heard of the American beaches and I thought the [Canadian beach] would be the same but it was completely different. The beach had no cover and was much smaller than I would have ever guessed. When I walked through the bunker, I tried to picture what the mindset of the Canadian soldiers who assaulted it was. I noticed that there was no gap in the machine gun hole guarding the door except for the machine gun. This made me wonder about what the soldiers must have gone through to capture Juno and secure a foothold on Europe.

It was surreal to see Juno Beach for the first time. It’s hard to believe that my schoolmates and I were actually standing on a battle ground. Walking along the beach gave me a sense of pride just knowing that, 62 years ago, soldiers gave their lives for their fellow Canadians. The Juno Beach Center is now one of my favourite museums. It showed interesting visual components and easy to read factual information. Overall, a good experience.

The Center was a nice reminder of how much we really have and the organized presentation showed what other Canadians have sacrificed. The movie was well done and the interactive portions were much appreciated. However, the faces of the children (Peter and Madeleine the two virtual guides for the young public) distracted one from the seriousness of the matter.

My visit meant a lot, I could see how the Canadian army fought and the conditions they were in. I have seen Dieppe and Juno Beach, so far, and I can picture how hard it would have been for the French to remember the Canadians who fought, and how they honour them for fighting in the war. I think that the museum is very well done, and has a lot of information. I learned a lot. The tour of the beach and the bunker was very interesting and the tour guide was very good. The film was wicked cool and very enjoyable. Keep up the great work.

It was important to visit this Centre because, as a Canadian citizen, I feel that it is important to honour and learn more about our Canadian history. Visiting this Centre, as Canadians, opens our eyes to the effort and success put forth by Canadian soldiers during the D-Day landings. Most of us are residents of Chesterville, so we can relate to the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders who fought here. We are impressed with the fact a museum so far away from Canada is dedicated to those who fought in World War II. We found the movie contained too much at one time and was hard to focus on. Memories will remain, looking out to the beach, imagining those on the day of the invasion.

Our guide Samantha was friendly and informative. The Juno Beach centre is informative but not overwhelming. Great details for non-Canadian visitors about our contributions. For Canadians, the Center could focus on providing a more visceral experience, particularly for groups and individuals who are already versed in the history. More of the specific Juno and other beach activities, and events from June 1944 through to liberation are needed.

Visiting Juno Beach and Normandy meant a lot to me because it enabled me to understand and appreciate Canada's history on a deeper level than I could have in a classroom. I walked through the museum and toured the beach. I particularly enjoyed seeing the belongings, the letters home, and photos of real soldiers. I will definitely remember that! Overall, I thought the museum was very informative and presented the information in a variety of ways, which kept it interesting and easy to understand.

The Juno Beach Centre is one of a kind. The museum itself is interactive and highly informative. It is wonderful to be in the presence of such passionate individuals who are devoted to fortifying the significance held at the Juno Beach Center. The Eastview group had a wonderful experience and one cannot be but humbled at having the opportunity to be able to see and set foot on the very beaches which were so key in Canada's success in the war. The Juno Beach Center impressed me a lot.

In March 2007, 40 students and 4 teachers from St. Joseph's Catholic High School in St. Thomas, Ontario travelled to France and Belgium to visit Canadian war sites and visit Paris. The tour began at Vimy Ridge and wound its way through northern France and Belgium finishing at the Juno Beach Centre. I can speak for everyone when I say it was an amazing experience that has left me with a greater appreciation of the sacrafices made by Canadians overseas. The pocket full of Juno sand and shells I brought home together with pictures and other momentos will become part of a permanent display in our school. I only wish all Canadians could have this experience. A comemortative brick was dedicated while we were there and I'm sure we'll be back to see it. Thanks so much.

Visiting Normandy was very moving. In Canada we read about the stuff that happened here and it’s like it’s in a film. But we can come to the museum and visit the beaches and see that this stuff actually happened and this is where people actually died [...]. The museum showed us a lot of things about Canada’s involvement in the war that we didn’t know before. You can see all the opinions and hear all of the experiences of people who actually participated in the war, and you learn how it affected them. It makes you look inside yourself and find out if you could have done those things yourself or if you would have given up. It’s pretty cool, because it teaches you something about the kind of person you are.

I think that a superb job has been done in designing the Centre. It tells the Canadian story from every aspect of life: from immigrant contribution, to the world situation. I think it is a truly moving testimony to those that died here, for what they accomplished in changing the course of history. My visit to Normandy was a very eye opening experience. History has always been my favourite subject, but coming here made everything I have learned more meaningful and real. The cemetery in Dieppe was hard to visit but I’m glad I got to go. The trip to Juno Beach was very interesting and it gave us a lot of good information. I especially liked how they included everything possible in the museum, not just information on combat soldiers, but communications and the women at home as well. Created deep pride, appreciation, gratefulness for our Canadian troops and lasting sorrow for those we lost. I can only hope that the museum will grow and receive more memorials / personal effects from soldiers to bring the reality of these lost heroes to future generation. Would have appreciated more history and facts of the events leading up to and also during the attack. Might be nice to give each visitor a soldier whose life they can follow and track during the tour, so they can connect on a more personal level. (i.e. the holocaust museum in Washington D.C.). It might have been nice to see the inside museum before the outside tour to get a better background and appreciation of the situation on the beach.
