Interactive, got to inside original bunker, learn how and why the attack happened, authentic smells, sights, etc. Our guide (Vanessa) was very funny and informative.

Great museum/ resources. Excellent background info. The students would have loved to spend more time on the beach. Vanessa was an awesome guide!

— October 25, 2012

I think this museum was different from others because the guide (Nitai) who did the workshop “History on Wheels” explained so we could understand. It was really good seeing things the soldiers wore/took with them during the war. I liked seeing artifacts and not just hearing about them or looking at a photograph. You can see what the objects were actually like.

— October 05, 2012

This museum was interactive and I really liked the movies. The translation was very good as well. During the guided beach tour I liked the bunkers the best. I hope that the tunnels get cleared for visits as this is fascinating. I would like to have seen more of the machinery used in D-Day and (as is appropriate) a graphic description of the war.

It was informative. The history was very interesting. I liked the presentation (History on Wheels) the best. I thought it was the best because you really put yourself in the soldier’s shoes.

This museum is different than others because it was more child-friendly and interactive. I liked being able to go into the bunker during the beach tour. The guide (Vanessa) was very good and explained it clearly.

— August 10, 2012

The fact that you fitted in the stops so people could go the graves of some family members was beyond what I would have ever expected and it was greatly appreciated. I know for me personally it was one of the very special points of the trip for me. I thank you very much for making that happen for me. I think it was special for the other people on the trip as well. It made the graves much more personal. I will bring to my class emotion that I would never have experienced if I hadn't been to the places that we visited. As I walked on the beaches and thought of those poor guys trying to get off the beaches it made me cry.

I just want to say that Kevin, Marie-Eve and Chris were very successful at creating an excellent trip that catered to a varied and ever-changing/always demanding group. Always ready to help and never wanting anything in return. Totally positive and very patient. Thanks to the Juno Beach Centre for the best professional development ever!

— August 10, 2012

A brilliant museum. The 10 minutes talk/introduction by your guide (Matthew) set it up well for our self guided visit.

— July 05, 2012

— July 04, 2012

Interesting, detailed, get a better picture looking at real artefacts - all in good condition. Cool to see propaganda posters, good to be outside classroom. Every step on beach had been where a soldier had been.

Loren, Mary & Geet (student)
Myton School (United Kingdom)

— July 04, 2012

Lots of interesting historical facts and statistics presented in a very personable style. Meeting “Part” in the museum allowed the students to really understand the life of a young soldier in Normandy.

Lesley Whiting (teacher)

I thought it was a very good and interesting guided beach tour. I loved that there was a lot of information as well as practical things like going in the bunker. It was more interesting than other museums I’ve been to.

Laura S. (student)
Saint John Houghton Catholic School (United Kingdom)

Instructif.

- (student)
Lycée des Métiers Augustin-Hébert (France)

— June 27, 2012

The movie was interesting, I like the booklet (Juno Quizz); I like researching/looking for the information. Wonderful! Good job! The Canadian employees. It is interesting because they have a different/another culture which is not French.

- (student)

— June 27, 2012

Visite intéressante et chargée d’histoire. Un moment émouvant.

Menouba Ahchouch (teacher)
Lycée des Métiers Augustin-Hébert (France)

— June 27, 2012

Very interesting visit. “History on Wheels” Workshop – excellent. For the class of French students learning English, a simpler English version of the workshop would be a good idea but keep the same for the booklet for the “Juno Quizz”.

Susan Bleusse (teacher)

Mme Berquin (teacher)

— June 25, 2012

To have a demonstration & explanation of individual items is good as I learnt more and it was more interesting. I liked that it was interactive and that there were lots of exhibits to explore.

- (student)
Townsend School (United Kingdom)

— June 25, 2012

Excellent explanation and hands-on opportunity after (Workshop “History on Wheels”). The students responded well to the questions/answers/then a bit of talk approach with the details about the uniform, and equipment as a focus. Thank you! It would have been helpful to have more time for the total visit – we arrived a little late but I also didn’t realize how much there was to do after the workshop.

We really enjoyed going into the bunker and we liked “Mario” the soldier.

- (student)
Bilton Junior School (United Kingdom)

— June 20, 2012

During the educational activity “A Canadian in Normandy” Mario the soldier was very interesting and engaging. The presentation really caught the children’s attention. Also; guided beach tour, including going into the bunker, was very interesting.

Kate Webb (teacher)
Bilton Junior School (United Kingdom)

— June 19, 2012

- (teacher)
Lycée La Lande du Breil (France)

— June 18, 2012

It was awesome because we got to go in the bunker and we met someone who fought in the war (educational activity “A Canadian in Normandy”). It is a great museum! Thank you.

— June 18, 2012

A wonderful experience for us all. Fascinating information and great presentation. Friendly, warm guides (Sylvie & Alexandre). Good to be able to go on beach and in bunker during the guided beach tour. Different from other museums. A unique opportunity – thank you!

Andy Woodagg (teacher)
All Saints Primary (United Kingdom)

Very enthusiastic tour and guides! History is really brought alive for the children with lots of details and examples. We especially enjoyed the artefacts, uniforms, and learning about the bunker.

Ecole Marie Curie (France)

— June 14, 2012

Nathalie Lebreton (teacher)
Ecole Marie Curie (France)

— June 13, 2012

Mahamadou (student)
Ecole Marcel Cachin (France)

— June 13, 2012

Belle prouesse ! L’autre guide (Virginie) était très accueillante, serviable… Deux guides parfaits !

Pierre Gaujour (teacher)
Ecole Marcel Cachin (France)

— June 13, 2012

This museum is different from others because you get to do everything yourself. We got to see things that other museums would not let you see, for example the bunkers. The best bits were going into the bunkers and the “Juno Quiz”.

Khyrah & Chrystal (student)
Links Primary School (United Kingdom)

— June 13, 2012

It was a very informative and authentic tour which the children found engaging. All of the activities motivated the children. The educational activity “A Canadian in Normandy” (Mario the soldier) was a good attention grabber. In the museum, the “Juno Quiz” helped the children better understand D-Day and the events surrounding it. Thank you.

Alex Lockhart (teacher)
Links Primary School (United Kingdom)

— June 12, 2012

Ecole A. Savary (France)

— June 12, 2012

Corinne Dufour (student)
Ecole A. Savary (France)

— June 11, 2012

On s’y croyait !

M Maxy (teacher)
Ecole Charles Huard (France)

— June 04, 2012

Gauthier (student)
Jeunes Sapeurs Pompiers d'Epernay (France)

— June 04, 2012

Lieutenant Eric Richard (teacher)
Jeunes Sapeurs Pompiers d'Epernay (France)

— June 01, 2012

— May 31, 2012

Mme Charlier (teacher)
Collège Jean Rostand (France)

— May 31, 2012

Charles M. (student)
Collège Beau Soleil (France)

— May 31, 2012

— May 31, 2012

I liked the underground bunkers because they were fascinating. There were the original bullet holes. I enjoyed the description from the guide (Scott) about the defense systems on the beach. The museum was really fascinating because there were lots of ‘hands on’ things to do. The introduction film was informative.

Robert (student)
Woodbrook Vale High School (United Kingdom)

Guide (Scott) – very good. The guided visit of Juno Park is extremely interesting. Looking forward to the opening of the tunnel.

Emma Gloves (teacher)

— May 24, 2012

I think the Centre is different than others museums because you can go into bunkers. The best thing here is probably all of it because it is so interesting and can find and do a lot at this wonderful museum. Also, the bunker is interesting because the guide (Matthew) described it really well. It was interesting how thick the walls are and how it can’t be destroyed by grenades or tanks.

The museum is different and special because it presents interesting information and objects in a fun way. We particularly enjoyed the videos and the artefacts belonging to people who lived at that time. In addition, the personal stories and experiences told made the visit more interesting. However, the introduction film was too short and didn’t give information clearly. Overall, it’s a great museum that we enjoyed.

Most Canadians have a family member or friend who fought in WWII; for me it was my great uncle. While I studied their sacrifice in school, the true nature of their valour never materialized until now. It is truly amazing to be on the beach that only 68 years ago they stormed, against unbelievable resistance. Through the location, exhibits, and multi-media this museum brought this profound realization to life.

Supervising a group of younger students (12-13 years old), both they and I really enjoyed the visit! The museum is clearly laid out. Exhibits were exciting and just detailed enough. It made for a really refreshing change from the other stuffy, cramped museums. The students seemed to especially enjoy the cultural readings – it made the whole thing come to life apparently. On the whole, a great museum! I enjoyed listening to the videos as they were really interesting. I also liked the guided beach including a tour of the bunker as our tour guide (Matthew) told us about how the Germans used them. I would definitely recommend this museum as it was very welcoming ... unlike some other museums.

We really enjoyed Mario’s (Eric) presentation as it gave us a chance to understand D-Day from a different point of view. This museum is one of the best war museums I’ve been too. The exhibits and information are presented in a creative and clear way, making the information more unique and interesting, capturing the imagination of the individual. Our group really enjoyed the experience here. It was refreshing to explore a museum that used various types of media to depict stories from our countries’ past. The videos were very interesting; and the text was informative and straight-forward, which was nice because we did not find ourselves overwhelmed while exploring the exhibits. The museum was very impressive and we thoroughly enjoyed the way in which the history was displayed. It really helped each of us to appreciate our history more and truly reflect on the amazingly brave soldiers who fought for the freedom of others here on Juno Beach.

I did find this museum quite different from others. I really liked how our group was given an introduction from a tour guide (Mikael - whose humour was much appreciated), and the different forms of information throughout the museum. The mix of forms of information throughout the museum, the mix of video, oral and written helps people really understand what this experience would have been like. The artefacts and pictures also helped everything seem much more real. It was a joy and I learned a lot! Thanks for creating this site!

I found this museum very interesting and I learnt loads of new facts. I liked going into the bunker during the guided beach tour because you got to have a feel of what it was really like to be fighting. I also liked the interactivity of the landing craft (museum’s introduction film).

We are very impressed by the Centre and guides. The information is good and accessible. It is excellent to have young Canadians as guides, and the relationship between youngsters and veterans is wonderful. The soldiers’ equipment was superb (History on Wheels educational presentation).

I found this museum to be different from the others. I liked how the guide (Matthew) was Canadian and therefore we could understand and connect with him better. I also like the video at the beginning of the museum; it helps to get into the mindset of a soldier. Lastly, I liked all the headsets throughout the museum so we could listen to what we liked. Thank you for making this museum, it was touching.

This museum was different because of all the artefacts from World War II and the information was really engaging rather than boring to listen to. We were intrigued by the great introduction movie because it really had a 360 degree view of what the soldiers went through. Amazing tour! Thank you very much for preserving artefacts and teaching others about World War II.

Well informed! Guided beach tour presented a powerful sense of the obstacles that our Canadian heroes had to deal with against horrible odds. The Germans were so well entrenched! Good speaker/guide (Matthew)! Age appropriate (our students were enthralled and engaged with guide and presentation)!

A visit to a place such as Juno Beach and the surrounding region is immensely important to all Canadians, in particular students. After visiting Juno, students have a much richer understanding of what Remembrance means for them and the rest of the world. There is nothing that we can do in our classrooms that can ever duplicate this experience.

This museum shed a different light from what we learn in schools. I learned a lot more than I thought I would. I liked the guide beach tour. I thoroughly enjoyed this museum thank you for being so welcoming to us Canadians.

This museum is different than others. It gives detailed and clear accounts of the military operations in WWII. It takes into account the details and explanations behind the various actions and battles that the Canadian divisions fought in, as well as the general background and lives/stories of our soldiers. It puts a welcomed emphasis on the men and women who fought during the Second World War; without being influenced by other topics. The explanations of the German defences and the beach with a guide add a level of realism that is often lost in other museums and on the people visiting.

Our guide (Eric) is very passionate about and proud of our history. He is a good story teller who put much of the Juno Beach landing into perspective creating real and sobering images in our minds. Favourite statement by Eric: “For our soldiers, D-Day and Juno Beach was only the beginning”.

This museum is different than others because there is a variety of listening devices. It adds to the experience because you have a better understanding of what was happening during the war. Appreciate being welcomed by a Canadian! The explanation of the landing on the beach (during the guided beach tour) was interesting. I saw many students looking proud. The museum was different as it had different mediums to experience the history prior to and during the war. I feel that the experience was all the more palpable because we were able to see footage and hear the various speeches made by world leaders (Hitler, Chamberlain, etc). Being on the beaches of Normandy is indescribable.

Wow!

I found this museum did an exceptional job at giving a feel for what the soldiers actually experienced. Allowing the group to walk on the beach where numerous soldiers died was a great way to get a feel for what the soldiers had to do. Everyone coming here should walk on the beach. Once inside the museum though the content got much more personal with pictures, names, and letters. Where other museums just gave a number of soldiers on the field, this museum gave actual names and faces you could connect to.

This museum is different from others. There is so much interactive knowledge all around as well as original articles from the war. It was nice to have a Canadian guide (especially from the same high school!) to teach us about the legacy of the Canadian soldiers and their sacrifice from the perspective of someone from the same generation. We didn’t visit the museum however I found that the guide (Eric) was very well educated on the battles that went on Juno Beach. What I liked the best during the guided tour of Juno Park was going inside the bunker. It was a great experience and I could really get a feel of how the soldiers lived. It surprised me that the Germans were so well prepared. I also loved the beach. It’s so beautiful it’s hard to imagine what went on here not that long ago.

My impression of the Juno Beach Centre is very good. The passport system in the temporary exhibit is a great way to make the museum more fun and interesting to a younger audience. It is great that we can touch some of the artefacts. It gives us a better idea of what it would have been like.

My impression of the Juno Beach Centre is that it was very informative and is suitable for most age groups. The passport system in the temporary exhibit is a good idea because people can take away a piece of information about different soldiers involved in D-Day. It helps us learn even more about the soldiers that took part in the war.

My overall impression of the Juno Beach Centre was that it was quite interactive and gave the perspective of some individual soldiers. I found it very informative with its different visuals, tactile and audio aspects. It allowed me to see the museum as more than an average history museum.

I really enjoyed the exhibits, especially the videos and the interactive activities. The map of Canada at the beginning of the permanent exhibit was very nice however it was quite out of date. One of my favourite parts was the artefacts from the Essex Scottish Regiment, which is from my hometown of Windsor, Ontario. The whole museum was very interactive and intimate. I loved it.
